AWAL’s Confusing Song Genre Guidelines

I thought I had hacked the system when I thought to include words like meditation, viral TikTok, or exercise music into the song titles of the works I was producing. It made sense to me because when I’m looking for a meditation online I typically type the word meditation instead of stumbling through songs and playlists that had nothing to do with guided meditations and sometimes this could work for me, other times not so much. SEOing your song title is one of the many things I was confused and blocked on by my distributor AWAL. I understodd and did my best to adjust to what they wanted while still maintain a sense of what I wanted to make with my audio creations.

The next email confused me completely. I couldn’t even use the genera that they had provided as a drop down menu option?

Here is a look at their options for choosing categories for music, as far as I can tell, these don’t do too much when it comes to distributing music, but it at least felt nice to put it in the right category for me.

They are the ones offering me the option to let them know I’m making meditation music and then are going to block titles because they are for meditation? I thought it was time to find a new distributor, but a few weeks later without any prompting, they released my title as it was. I’m left thoroughly confused, but here we are with one more meditation out in the world. Perhaps the music world doesn’t want to share their pie with the meditation creators of the world. I thought it was a great way to get my work out there, but who knows. Let me know if you’ve had trouble distributing your work to the world and being blocked by the powers that be.
