Be an Explorer of the World
Go out into the world and see what kind of people there are to be. Observe, write (if you have trouble remembering, like I do), and decide what kind of person you would like to be before choosing the default of what you grew up with.
If you already true blue know who you are, that’s fantastic, and I’m proud of you, but if you are a little more like me and have trouble figuring out what pieces are you and what pieces you were brought up with. Take a pause, drop who you were brought up as and question your core values. Interact with the world and see what sticks. What feels better than what you’ve been by default? Or have you been your truest self all along? You may not know until you experiment a little, push some of your boundaries, and find out who you are by exploring what other people are like and what they are doing.
I love to ask people what makes them tick, what motivates them, what they are passionate about. I have trouble answering this question and some other people do too, but asking the difficult questions can get you the most interesting answers. Many people are motivated by loops, they need to take care of their family, and therefore need to keep a job, which is a perfectly good explanation. Is that how you’d like to live your life? In a loop? Or are you always after something more? Do you find yourself questioning the rules, finding loop holes, and ways around the norm?
What makes you tick? Have you explored the world and found out yet?
