Career Advice: You Don’t Have to Know What You Want to Do When You Grow Up. Trust the Process
I’ve struggled with knowing what I want to do my whole life. When I heard about goals and setting them at 17, I found a few that seemed important and accomplished all of them by 19. Since then, I haven’t had the foresight to see what it is I want to do with my life or the big picture career wise. And I’m here to tell you that if you are in the same boat, that’s ok. You don’t have to have big life goals or know what you want. You Can just keep going on to things that interest you, research things that make you curious, and if you can’t find anything, it’s ok to take a break and wait for the next big thing to find you. Relax. Enjoy your life as it is. And hopefully some direction will come, but if it doesn’t, it’s perfectly fine to enjoy life as it is without a direction.
I’ve been doing the lotus and the lily 30 day soul program for the second time and I’m not finding many new insights, especially when it comes to direction, desires, or life path options. And that’s ok. I will say one of the great things I have re-learned from this book is to forgive. It’s a great lesson to relearn, even if I’m not finding what direction I should be heading. I’ll be out here drifting and enjoying the view of you need me while I continue to do what I’ve been doing by default.
