Failure of the Modern Medical System

We all know that doctors are people, and people aren’t perfect; that’s why it is called a medical practice. But I’ve just gone in a circle with my gastroenterologist that makes me want to pull my hair out.

I suffer from nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, and diarrhea, yeah, I’m the walking pepto bismol commercial. Along with a few various odd symptoms that come and go, I suspect I have an autoimmune disease, IBS, or something wrong with my pancreas. But anyways, I go to a specialist in March who thinks I have celiac disease. She wants to do an endoscopy to get a biopsy of my small intestine, but I don’t want to. I had an endoscopy when I was 15 and I didn’t come out of the anesthesia well, my dad fares even worse than I do. Last time he went under it took mom and I eight hours of watching him, making sure he didn’t choke to come out enough to drive him home from an outpatient procedure. Therefore I want to do anything I can to avoid having to go under, an endoscopy seems like one of those things.

So the doctor runs these tests.

It seems like I might have celiac disease and she still wants to do a scope. I push back and say no. I quit eating gluten for months and things don’t change. I go to a naturalistic doctor and see a little bit of improvement by drastically changing my diet. I’ve been Paleo minus all the good…
