Make Every Day a Vacation

In Writing the Mind Alive(AD), author Linda Trichter Metcalf casually mentions in the introduction, “…You experience episodes of heightened consciousness, an antidote to depression...” I would think mentioning an antidote to depression might be a bit more groundbreaking than a middle of a paragraph. Of course it makes more since upon reflection, if you are depressed by doing the mundane, change what you are doing.

Vacation can help with burn out, it takes us out of our routines, changes the way we think and feel and usually comes with novel experiences. Trying something new or visiting an old favorite can be the pick me up to get out of a funk. At the end of this article is a list of some of my favorite ways to introduce the novel into the everyday and turn it into a vacation.

A plant medicine therapist and life coach* provided this quote about microdosing, “If no one has experienced excellence in their day, they will now know what excellence can feel like. For those who feel their life has excellence, get ready for more.” An elevated mood boost, a happy pill, what if we treated everyday like it were a vacation? If we could find time to make extraordinary moments in our everyday life, it would be much sweeter. I’m not yet through the introduction yet in the aforementioned book (I am now), but that’s what Proprioceptive Writing claims to offer. I’d be included to agree, but I’d also like to mention all the other things that bring great joy to me.
