Make Time

I’ve quite saying I didn’t have time to do something, but instead say, I didn’t make time. To me there’s a big difference and it’s prioritizing. When something is in front of me, either by a person being a frequent presence in my life or a looming deadline, I shift my focus to the thing that needs my attention and ensure the related task is completed. Something has been on my to do list for several months and is still lingering there at the bottom, it isn’t a priority and I didn’t make time for it. If someone were to sit next to me and tell me to focus on that task until it was completed, it would be done, but no one is championing me to update the links on my website and it still isn’t done after four months (this is an actual problem, take it up with my IT department…oh, that’s me).

When I make something the one thing that is going to be done today: the first thing or the one item on my Make Time Daily Planner.

Having a to do list is great, but if I can’t accomplish a small piece of my to do list in a small amount of time, I’m probably not going to do it because I can’t see the direct results and therefore isn’t a priority.

Pick that one thing, that first step on your way to success or a more relaxed existence and make that your one thing to do either right now or first thing tomorrow.

Funny enough, sometimes I’ll realize I haven’t done my one thing for the day at 9:30 at night and then have a late night solo dance party (like I did tonight) so I accomplished the task of the day. Whatever it is: do it, make it a routine and let that thing be your why for getting out of bed tomorrow morning.

Automate the process

Once you have figured out a few things you’d like to do, automate your schedule with a daily, weekly, or monthly routine so you don’t have to spend extra brain space deciding what to do each day. Let your routine become automatic and ingrained in what you’d like to do, accomplish, and become.
