My Earnings on Medium and Why I’m Excited About Earning on a Platform that Monetizes Everyone (My 100th Article on Medium!)
Last month I made $3.25 on medium…and I’m thrilled about it. I’ve published 99 stories in the last two and a half years (this is my 100th!) and medium is set up to let the underdogs have a piece of the pie, even if it isn’t a huge one.
Nearly all other money making websites I am a part of require a minimum payout threshold of $20, $50, or even $100. Other platforms, I’m talking about you YouTube and TikTok, require such high engagement rates and large subscriber bases that most people don’t qualify for monetization. In fact, my first video that went viral on YouTube and had a million views wasn’t able to be monetized because I hadn’t met the threshold yet and by the time I did, it wasn’t so viral anymore (I have a ton of other bad things to say about the work I make and monetization on YouTube, (spoiler alter: I’m not monetized and a bit bitter) but that’s another article).
Here on medium even the beginning writer can be paid for their work, it was a little tedious, but not impossible, to set up, and once I was up and running for my first article, away I wrote. I haven’t been terribly consistent with my writing habits, but I’m always trying to improve. I found the best system was to have a non-negotiable daily word count and stick to it day after day. I was able to write a 50,000 word novel in a month this way, (thank you NaNoWriMo) but have found sticking to a daily word count…
