My Failures as an Artist

I’ve had several people look at me and say you are a successful artist. I hedge my response and say I’m a successful naked online person, but depending on what qualifications you use, I may or may not be a successful artist.

If you count making a living full time selling paintings as a successful artist, then I am not a successful artist.

If you count taking naked photos and videos of myself and selling them as a successful artist, then here I am.

I take a third view and see making what you want and not putting too much stress on yourself to create as a successful artist, so yes, I consider myself successful definitely in some lights it all depends on your perspective and opinion.

Sure, I have moments of success as an artist. There was a show where I sold nearly half of my works and I counted that as a huge success (although I have the other half of the pieces that didn’t sell still in storage…something I don’t count as great in my game).

It’s hard for me to sell paintings. In fact, there’s over 100 unsold pieces sitting in my house waiting for their forever home, but I have two huge barriers to entry when it comes to selling them: wiring/framing and listing them online/getting the for sale paintings in front of an audience to buy them. Besides those two things, they are practically sold!

I’ve always struggled with framing and wiring my paintings for shows. Sometimes I’d get help, sometimes I’d struggle through, but what I hadn’t though of…
