The Importance of Massage

There are a few people I mostly only know as acquaintances, but I look at them and think: they’ve never had a massage. Both of these people are men with slender frames and their posture suggests that they either spend all day hunched over or are afraid to be their full height, they are both tall. They spend their time bending closer to the ground and don’t live up to their full height. I frequently wish that they would go to a professional massage to see if their hunching issue could be corrected or think to myself if they had been going to a massage therapist their posture might not look like this.

I love getting massages, either as preventative patience or to address a body issue. I know I don’t have the best posture, as I sit curled into a ball with only my arms extended to write, but routine visits help keep me from forming lasting damage to my body. I say I go once a month, but that’s how often I’d like to go, I actually go around quarterly depending on scheduling, timing, etc. But I love the experience, the low light, the calming music, and the slight mixture of pain in some areas as the therapist works out knots that have been there too long combined with the calming pleasure of touch on most of the rest of my body.

I do know some people find massage intimidating, being naked in a room with a stranger, but it isn’t mandatory to be fully nude, or perhaps you can start out with a fully clothed chair massage to ease you into the experience and build trust with your practitioner. Rest assured, there’s rigorous schooling involved with becoming a licensed therapist, and if there’s too much pain you can always ask for them to move on to a different area or use a different pressure. In my opinion, massage should be covered under all health care, I find it much more preventative than having my blood panels run every year at the regular doctor.
