The Secret to Editing Written Words Effectively
The best key I’ve worked with while editing my written works, has been to read them aloud. I’m sure people have told me to do this over the years, but did I listen, well eventually I did.
How I learned this was when I had the final copy of one of my books and I was going to make an audio book for it, I was reading along and kept finding mistake after mistake as I was recording. Which has led me to this breakthrough if I know I’m making an audio book for a written work, I will record it before I release the final copy of the printed text because it will serve as my editing tool. If I’m not making an audio book, which I sure hope I’m not of my most recent novel, I take it upon myself to read my book out loud one last final time as part of the editing process.
