Imagine a weekend where you instantly make tons of new friends easily, learn a lot, and discover new skills, while being immersed in your favorite element: water. Add breathwork, yoga, and continuously being outside and you have DEWE.
DEWE sparked new desires in me in ways I didn’t think were possible. It felt like a coming together of skills I’d been learning for self pain management, but showed me what I could do with them when I was healthy.
I’d been working with breath work and yoga for years now. From when I finally decided to keep going back to the doctors about my health problems that had been there since at least 2nd grade, possibly my entire life, and came away with try yoga to manage your pain. I was miffed at a traditional doctor for suggesting something as simple as yoga, yet it put me on a path that would eventually lead to optimal health. That was over 5 years ago. I went home, joined my local studio, and started participating in yoga each day it was offered, except the 5:30 a.m. class…getting enough sleep is another important part of the puzzle.
I stumbled into another form of yoga from a coworker from when I worked at an organic farm: kundalini. That paired breathwork with movement in a way other types of yoga didn’t always do. If you have a great teacher, they will at least remind you about diaphragmatic breathing, if not cue it frequently throughout class.
