What Percentage of People are Gay/Queer/Bi/LGTQIA+?

I googled this question when I first came out back in 8th grade (2008) and found a dismal 4% of women at the time were bisexual. I recently looked this up again (within the last year or two) and found the same percentage was still listed. A quick google search now turns up between 7–10%, which is bettering my odds.

When I was first coming in to my own sexually I knew one or two people who were out and bi, but I was confused enough when girls I thought were straight would kiss me, I thought they were experimenting instead of wanting to actually date me. The percentage seemed so low as to women who may be interested in me, but the older I get, and perhaps I’m running in different circles or I’ve attracted the right people: I’m finding more and more people that are out and open instead of the closeted relationships of high school and 10+ years ago.

I’m so happy and proud that people are embracing who they truly are and not being afraid anymore. I’m also thankful for all the tolerance, understanding, kindness, and support that is available for LGBTQIA+ folks and can only open for love to keep growing.

Hugs and here’s to being open and honest about yourself, who you are, and loving people.
