Writer Defined & Never Choosing One Career

Writers are vessels waiting to be filled then pouring out. I want to be a writer. I want to be a writer because I want to live fully, experience life to the fullest, and never have to choose what my only career is. I just read an excerpt from Deep* by James Nestor, he’s in a submarine and he’s writing about the amazing sights he’s seeing at depths rarely explored by humans. Why is is down there? His curiosity and passion about the subject and because he’s writing about it! Being a writer means you can do and read into a ton of weird and interesting subjects in the name of research. (Side note: Let me write that down under business expenses, one submarine ride, submitted to my accountant.)

Writer: people who become fascinated by a concept and investigate it deeply until they become a near expert and share what they’ve learned with others. I do my best at writing while I’m still a beginner and avidly absorbing new information about a subject. I write as I learn.

I love filling my writing cup with life experiences, classes, teachers, and the voices of others. My long term memory has an interesting loop hole, I tend to be good at remembering books, things, and ideas, but when it comes to recalling them in the moment or teaching them, I find myself frequently stuck. If I take notes or write as I go I am better able to remember what has happened and write more thoroughly about it.

Here’s to many new and amazing life experiences in the name of writing. Lead interesting lives so they can be written about!
